MARQUEES are booked out and nominations are pouring in for this Sunday’s annual Casterton Cup race meeting.
At time of going to press, 38 nominations had been received for the feature event and Casterton Racing Club President, Mark Davis said he was delighted by the racing fraternity’s response to Sunday’s meeting.
“I’ve just been looking at the nominations and it looks like we’ll have good fields in all races,” Mr Davis said.
“The marquees are booked out again, we’ve had great support once again from our sponsors for fashions on the field, so it looks like being a great day out.”
In a big change to this year’s meeting, but one which is welcomed by the club, the famous Two Rivers Steeplechase is not on this Sunday’s card, but will be staged at the club in June, as its own stand-alone event.
“We’re hoping that having that as a separate, feature meeting will draw more quality jumpers to the event,” Mr Davis said.
With the weather predicted to hit a mild top of 19 degrees on Sunday, with just a slight chance of some drizzle to dampen the track, Mr Davis said this year’s cup would meet all of the standards crowds have come to expect over recent years.
“We have a huge local crowd there and a lot of visitors coming home just for cup weekend each year … everyone supports it really well,” he said.
“The track is in superb condition, we haven’t had all the water lying around this year, just some good steady rain and that has helped it no end.”
Gates open at the Casterton Racecourse at 11am on Sunday, with undercover betting ring, trackside TAB and catering and fashions on the field for men, women and children throughout the afternoon.
