THE Hamilton Harness Racing Club track is currently undergoing upgrades, taking advantage of a break in the club’s schedule of meets.
Harness Racing Victoria workers were in Hamilton this week to carry out the upgrades, which includes putting a new surface on the track and redoing the banking around the track.
Club president, Glenn Parkin said this week was an ideal time to get in and get it done with a gap in the schedule.
“It gives them the perfect time to do the upgrades,” he said.
“They have said three days and it will be back to normal then it will take a little while just to settle.
“It is a premier track in the state, so it has to be maintained.”
With the track regarded as one of the fastest in the state, Parkin expects the upgrades to quicken race times even more.
“It is probably seven or eight years since it had a major overhaul, so it has probably come to the end of the road,” he said.
“It is still running fast times, but with a new surface and all the banking readjusted, I think it will end up even quicker.”
The club’s next racing meet is scheduled for August 2.
