Western Speedway revs up for action after first two meets were washed out

HAMILTON will rock tonight with Western Speedway turning on a huge action-packed program after having a disastrous start to the season with the first two meetings cancelled due to the weather.

Competitors from all around Victoria and South Australia have indicated they want to be part of the big 26-race program, with 64 competitors chasing the win in the Southern Street Stock Series.

Victorian champion, Dale Morrison, who took the title here last year, heads the field for the Victorians, and the star studded group includes several former state and national title holders.

Drivers from around Victoria include Matt Nelson, Jack Jordan, Locklan and Hayden Glare, Mick Dann, Dale Morrison, Peter Kinnear, Dean Jenkins, Morris Ahearn, Jack Jordan, Jackson Annett, Steven Watts, Ellen Vagg, Jared Wilkinson, Paul Domburg, Luke Jenkins, Scott Secombe, Zack Yeoman, Jamie Crutchley, Jason Degoldi , Bhoe Paterson, Ron  and Josh Davey, Scott and Mark Purdie, Leigh Gooding, Chris Hay, Shaun Jenkins, Ryan Watts, Paul and Brian Exner, Jayden Blomeley, Darwyn Lee, Lochlan Glare, Wade Fell, Nathan Fawns, Jensen Wilson, Tim Hutchinson, Matt LePoidevin, Tyler Barton, Steve Hardie, Jack Littlehales, Hayden Glare, Caylem Fell and Steve Brook.

He will be joined by Drew and Darren Flatman, Bryan Brown, Thomas Garner, Heath and Nathan Thorne, Cameron, Alex and Mark Merrett, Dakota Knowles, Jayden Edwards, Corey Crafter, Patrick Hall and Aaron Tyler.

Other interstaters are Matt Crawford and Kane Lloyd.

Drivers will be using tonight’s event as a lead up to the big one – the SSA Australian Street Stock Championships, to be held here in Hamilton on March 8-10 and promises to be one meeting you should put on your calendar.

Production Sedan drivers are also turning out in force tonight to honour long term club member, Mrs Robin Sparrow, who passed away last year.

The Sparrow family have always been strong supporters of the Hamilton club with family connections having had a long history with the track.

The field of 23 cars for the Robin Sparrow Memorial will be led by Dehne Sparrow along with Scott Hawkins, Graeme Gerlach, Trevor Mills, Peter Dowling, Alex Miller, Anthony Hanson, Dean Hughes, Zac and Moldy Calderwood, Jack Beare, Danny Harrison, Stephen Laidlaw, Shaun and Ryan Queale, Steve Aldridge, Belinda Taylor, Jevon Duff and Kenneth Mankey.

The local club will have Colby Hammond, Hayden, Heath and Mark Riley and Dehne Sparrow also in the field.

Rounding out the action will be the V8 Trucks with Nathan Bird, Wes Bell, Donald Timmis, Fletcher Mills, Luke James and Jaryd Carman turning the wheels.

These beasts are a great favourite with the fans, as they thunder around the track wheel to wheel.

Racing tonight commences at 4.30pm and further information is available on the Western Speedway Hamilton website or Facebook page.
