Heywood community day at Casterton

THE annual Heywood Community Day returns to Casterton tomorrow with seven races highlighting the day’s festivities.

Trainers have supported the meeting with strong nominations that resulted in six of the seven races having emergencies.

Plenty of depth with varying form lines will provide punters with a challenge, but with that value will be available.

Hamilton trainer, Charlotte Parker, returns to the track for the third time this preparation with new stable acquisition, State Of Maine.

Two runner-up efforts have been terrific behind respective Symon Wilde-trained gallopers, Wichitall and Darts Daly.

The rise to 1400m suits where all three career wins have come under the care of previous trainer, Tom Dabernig.

Melissa Julius takes the ride and despite drawing barrier 11, looks hard to beat in a very strong 0-58 event that will provide multiple dangers.

Parker will be looking to add to an already excellent training record.

Since saddling her first runner in December last year, only one has missed a top three finish that includes two winners and five second placings.

While having an eye on local runners, Kasami, trained by Bec Winnell, is worth an each-way ticket at big odds in the Helloworld Portland 0-58 Handicap over the 1000m scamper.

The pace will be on from barrier rise and should jockey, Neil Farley, settle near the pace from a good barrier, the mare can sneak into the money.

The other runner to watch in the race is The Cruiser trained by Frankie Stockdale and ridden by Jess Eaton.

A pacy gelding with a good first-up record, the long trip from Pakenham suggests a prominent showing.

Stockdale has two other runners, Lovely Sam in the opener and Unique Bambino later in the day, the former some chance based on being sent to Caulfield for his debut last December.

Wilde knocks up training winners at Casterton and tomorrow he presents two more strong chances.

Alisent in the Helloworld Portland Maiden Plate and Golden Garden in the AG Warehouse Heywood Handicap will both start close to favourite and look very hard to beat.

Alisent was well-supported at Geelong when a strong first-up second and should get a great run from barrier three.

Golden Garden was an easy three-length winner at the last Casterton meeting, and only needs to run to that level to win again.

His main dangers, The True Believer and His Zedness, chased him home last start and look likely to be fated the same tomorrow.

My final horse to follow is Outstanding Reward, trained by Peter Chow.

Despite not winning for almost two years, his last two runs for placings at Hamilton and Warracknabeal have been encouraging.

He has drawn a little wide in barrier eleven, but any luck with Tom Madden riding will see him in the finish.

Good punting.
