Coleraine cup all set to roll

THE Coleraine Cup meeting has attracted over 350 nominations, as the club prepares for a bumper day on Friday.

At the time of going to print, final fields were not available, but the nominations indicate full fields of at least eight races.

With marquees sales all but sold out, everything points towards a successful day after the disappointment of having the Great Western Steeplechase meeting transferred to Casterton in August.

Fashions are always a popular event with over $3000 in prizes on offer in ladies, gents, locals and children’s categories.

Live music during the day from local artists, Dylan O’Keefe and Jayden Lillyst, which will be followed by The Indicators after the meeting will keep patrons fully entertained.

Free bus services from both Hamilton and Coleraine can be utilized by booking a seat online.

Suizuro, trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, heads the cup weights with 66kg, followed by this year’s Warrnambool Cup winner, Mystery Island, with 63kg.

Launceston and Hobart Cup placed Grand Pierro is up next in the weights, followed by this Casterton and Apsley Cup winner, Picaroon.

Glitter ‘N’ Gold and Station One rounds out recent local cup winners, the former successful at Penshurst and Colac, while the latter led all the way in the Dunkeld Cup.

Beyond the top 10 weighted horses in the cup, the field is filled with horses on the minimum weight of 54kg.

Depending on how many of the class horses run, the winner may be well hidden among those further down in the weights.

Ciaron Maher has Commander Harry and Morryl Moral fitting this category along with Gavin Bedggood, with Cruz Missile and border-hopper Bit Of A Rebel from the David Jolly stable.

Casterton trainer, Kaye Edwards, has the consistent Americain Miss nominated for the 0-58 Handicap over 2200m, and on recent form looks a strong hope.

A Terang victory followed by Casterton and Hamilton placings reads well for this type of race.

The Andrew Bobbin-trained Thinkhardandfast along with Brady Cross’ Dartboard potentially look strong hopes in the 1600m Maiden, while Gas Brigade from the Nathan Dunn barn looks ready to win, should he line up in the 1400m Maiden.

The BM64 handicap over 1300m has attracted very strong nominations, with Calico Jack, trained by Tom Dabernig, heading the weights with 65.5kg.

Symon Wilde has nine nominations for the race, the best of them being Sasqualah.

Good punting.
