HAMILTON Olympic Swimming Club members have had a strong showing at recent events, putting up personal best times and competing against the state’s best.
Hayley Jellie, Imogen Wedding and Gemma Kyle all qualified for the Victoria Country Short Course Championships in Wangaratta, with Kyle falling ill and preventing her from taking to the pool.
Jellie qualified for the Girls 16-17yr 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke and the 100m individual medley, shaving more than three seconds off her personal best time in the freestyle to finish seventh with a time of 1:02.40.
The junior also shaved almost a second off her individual medley pb, and over two seconds off butterfly and backstroke times.
Wedding competed in the Girls 12-13yr 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m individual medley and the 200m freestyle, competing strongly in each of the events.
Jellie and Wedding, along with Zak Wan Ullok, were among hundreds of swimmers at the Victorian Age Short Course Championships in Melbourne.
The trio needed to swim qualifying times to be eligible for the meet, giving a nod to the local swimming program for the success in having three juniors in the mix.
Wedding competed in the 12yr Girls 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 100m individual medley, recording a personal best in the 100m freestyle with a time of 1:09.41.
Jellie scored a top 20 finish in the state in the 50m freestyle, finishing with a personal best time of 28 seconds.
Wan Ullok competed in the 15yr Boys 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle, setting personal best times in both races in a promising sign for his development.
With the short course season officially over, the long course season gets underway with an event scheduled for today at Ballarat.
The Hamilton club will have plenty of representatives, as the juniors look to start the new season with promising results in the pool.
