THE Surry District Tennis Association hit their finals campaigns on the weekend with A grade side Tyrendarra stamping their authority on Saturday against Lawn Purple.
Tyrendarra earned a 4-37 to 2-28 victory on Saturday to progress through to the March 25 grand final.
It was a resounding win for the side dropping just two sets – in the women’s doubles – and winning their four other sets quickly.
Dan Polkinghorne and Marcus McClintock got the winning side off to an impressive start defeating Cameron McCallum and Nash Wollard, 8-5 and 8-2.
In Lawn Purple’s usual fashion their women’s duo of Leah Sandeman and Kerri-Ann O’Keefe held strong to defeat Hannah Jones and Sally McClintock, 8-1 and 8-4.
The match came down to the mixed doubles where Polkinghorne and Jones combined well to get on top of McCallum and O’Keefe, 8-3.
It was a similar affair in the final set with mother and son McClintock duo showing plenty of form to defeat Wollard and Sandeman, 8-3.
While Tyrendarra moves through to the grand final, Lawn Purple will play off against Lawn Blue in the preliminary final on March 18 (no matches will be played this week’s long weekend).
• In the second A grade game played out on Sunday, Lawn Blue bought an end to Heywood’s season with a 5-45 to 1-23 win.
Lawn Blue was solid across the court in their first four sets, making quick work of their men’s and women’s doubles match ups to head into the mixed doubles with the match locked in.
Heywood fought hard in the final two sets with Jason Alexander and Cindy Kollar stealing a final set from Craig Keenan and Verity McDonald but it wasn’t enough to keep them in the match.
