Blues clip the Magpies’ wings

BLUES got the better of Magpies in their Hamilton Table Tennis Association A grade clash last week.

Michael and Billy Fitzpatrick were on the ball, winning all available rubbers for the Blue team.

The Magpies’ Marcus and Elijah Gellert took two rubbers to a five-game conclusion but were unable to get over the line, as Blues got the 5-18 to 0-5 victory.

Cats defeated Hawks, thanks to Nathan Coombes, who won two singles rubbers and teamed up with Heidi Wooldridge to win the doubles rubber, giving Cats a handy 3-10 to 2-8 win over the Hawks.

Dale Minney and Daryl Rankin won a singles rubber each for the Hawks.

Bombers went down to Tigers in the final match-up. As Simon Neaves won two singles rubbers for the Tigers, supported by Hugo Tang who won one singles rubber.

Neaves and Tang also won the doubles rubber from Bombers’ Katie Wooldridge and Chris Minney, Wooldridge saved the Bombers from a rout, winning a singles rubber in the 1-5 to 4-13 loss.

Grade A2

IT was a good night on the table for the Cats’ pair, Darryl Fry and Justin Broadwood, against Bombers, helping the team to a 4-12 to 1-6 victory.

Broadwood won two singles rubbers and Fry claimed one rubber, while the doubles rubber was also won by Cats from Bombers’ Ben Wooldridge and Manoah Gellert, 11-2, in the fourth game.

Gellert also won a singles rubber for the Bombers.

Magpies got the better of Tigers, winning 3-9 to 2-7.

The match score was 2-2 leading into the final rubber between Magpies’ Caleb Gellert v Tigers’ Lee Handreck.

Gellert was all business, as he wrapped up the final singles rubber in three games to give the Magpies a win.

Blues were the other winners, accounting for Hawks, 4-14 to 1-3.

Hawks started well with Mohammad Touhidi picking up the first singles rubber from Blues’ Tony Esh, 11-8, in the fifth game.

Sadly, this was their only win for the night with the Blues’ pair, Tony Esh and Mark Stevenson, winning the remaining four rubbers, all in the regulation three games.

B Grade

SINETH Hansa had a great night on the B grade table, winning two singles rubbers for Blues, both in straight games.

Magpies’ Asher Gellert and Braxton Neaves won a singles rubber each and picked up the doubles rubber from Blues’ Sineth Hansa and Evie Rankin, 11-6, in the fourth game to give their team the win, 3-9 to 2-7.

Charlie Fitzpatrick won two singles rubbers for the Tigers against Cats, helping her team to a 3-10 to 2-7 victory.

Liam Picford won one singles rubber, while Darcy Walsh picked up a singles rubber for the Cats and teamed with Axel Dixon to claim the doubles rubber from the Tigers pair, 11-8, in the fourth game.
