BOWLS divisions across the state once again hit their greens, at the completion of the Victorian Open sojourn with some wild winds hitting the the start of play for the division one and two teams competing at home.

It was not the most successful round for overall pennant wins this week. Division 1 were up against Hamilton and the home ground advantage didn’t get them across the line with the result being 59 to 68 Hamilton’s way. Individual rink results came through as follows: Des Pitts and team worked hard against an onslaught, going down 11 to 31. Greg Hoggan’s team members were involved in a tight game and were able to cross the line winning by four shots against Hamilton opposition, 28 to 24. Ken Evans led his team to a seven-shot win, scores being 20 to 13. Division one are placed third on the ladder at this point of the competition.

Division two also went down on the home ground by a mere four shots, PRSLM 51 to Hamilton Gold 55. Gerry Watt and his team were in a very tight game, finally going down 16 to 17. Leonie Buchanan’s team put a total of 14 shots on the board up against 21 shots. Peter Fasoli held on to win recording 21 shots to 17. Division two are currently sitting third on the ladder.

Division three made their way to Grangeburn going down by 10 shots overall 58 to 68. David Garnier and team were up against some solid opposition going down 12 to 33. Tink Imbi and his quartet put 18 shots on the scorecard to 25. Ron Robertson led his team to a strong victory with an onslaught of shots pencilling in 28 to the oppositions 10.

Midweek Pennant results

Midweek Pennant saw division one welcome Balmoral to the seaside.

Division one was able to put a good solid affirmative win on the board putting up 89 shots to Balmoral’s 28. June Leahy and team compiled a total of 26 shots to 11. Marion Husson’s team kept piling on the shots taking a win of 34 to 6. Whilst Jude Fasoli led her compatriots to a comfortable 29 – 11 win. PRSLM are placed third on the ladder at this point in the competition.

Division two had the bye, whilst division three made their way up the highway to Hamilton to meet them on their green. Despite being on away turf, Memorial were able to come away winners 37 to 28. Pauline Breen’s team held their own to win by 8 shots. Final marking on the scorecard had Breen 19 to Edwards 11. Trish Watt’s foursome was involved in a close, tight finish and finally made it across the line as winners 18 to 17. Division three are currently fifth on the ladder.

Weekend Pennant teams

Weekend Pennant sides for December 3 have been selected and at time of print read as follows:

Division one are playing away at Portland. This should be an interesting match up as PRSLM are only a mere 5 points clear on the ladder from Portland. The three-team line up is as printed Des Pitts(S), Chris Elford, Dean Beckman and Terry Stanley; Greg Hoggan(S), Jim Scott, Kim Overall and John Linley; Ken Evans(S), Ken Woolley, John Buchanan and Simon Hein.

Division two are also playing away at the home of Hamilton Green. Teams line up as follows: Gerry Watt(S), Trevor Wynniat, Ted Leahy and Judith Fasoli; Leonie Buchanan(S), Terry Barclay, Uppie Angelino and June Leahy; Peter Fasoli, Robert Liddle, Ian Benbow and Robert McIntyre.

Division three enjoy the luxury of not having to travel this week, hosting Hamilton. Tink Imbi is the skip in the first team along with Peter Pevitt, Ian Merrett, and Peter Sierat; Ron Robinson(S), combines with Meredith Fredericks, Lachie Aitchison and Jack Rees. Finally, David Garnier will skip Pearl Kitt, Robyn McCabe and Bev Smith.

Midweek Pennant - Round 9

Tuesday December 6 brings about round nine of the competition. Please find the teams listed as below:

Division one will make the trek to the opposite end of town against Portland who hold top position of the division one ladder. PRSLM are currently third. Teams are made up of the following combinations: June Leahy(S), Gerry Watt, Ted Leahy and Joan Englezos; Marion Husson(S), Terry Stanley, Peter Fasoli and Kathryn Beauglehole; Jude Fasoli(S), John Wallis, Rob Liddle and Leanne Evison.

Division two host their long distance competitor Penshurst. Teams read as printed: Meredith Fredericks(S), Trevor Wynniat, Julie McInnis and Robyn McCabe; Pearl Kitt, Dean Beckman, Mike Rentoul and Rose Sturzaker.

Division three welcome Heywood who are third on the ladder to our fifth spot and the teams have been selected as follows. Teams read as follows: Trish Watt(S), Jack Rees and Heather Liddle; Pauline Breen(S), Tink Imbi and Bev Smith.

Upcoming events

Social Bowls continues to be on our bowls events calendar every Wednesday and Saturday. Starting time is 1 pm and names must be into Graham and Norm by 12:30pm. The contact phone number is 5523 7155. These days are not just for current bowlers but we love to see new and visiting folk. Bowls are also available at the club for use at no charge.

Monday evenings are put aside for coaching and is held between 5pm – 6pm. This is provided free of charge and all equipment is provided. Currently Twilight Barefoot Bowls is on hold. Stay tuned for resumption dates and times.

As the paper comes to print, we have one remaining day of the Secondary Schools Triples Bowls Tournament being a highlight on our greens. Well done to all the students who have participated in the tournament. Thankyou’s must go to the school’s, their staff and students for supporting the event with such enthusiasm. We must also acknowledge the work done by our volunteers, management and staff who enable this tournament to take place. The last week of Weekend Pennant round 10 prior to Christmas is Saturday December 17. It will resume on Saturday January 21.

Don’t forget Social Bowls every Wednesday and Saturday and coaching every Monday. It is a good time of the year to get together with friends and family and have a roll on the green and enjoy the club’s facilities.
