THE Salvation Army’s Wishing Tree has gone up at K hub, as part of the Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal, which provides gifts for children in need over the Christmas period.
Gifts can be left in the boxes near the tree, which has gone up in the entrance to K hub, where they will be distributed by the Salvation Army to children in need in the district.
“This is our first Wishing Tree Appeal in Kmart this year, so we’re really excited to have Kmart on board,” said Salvation Army Lieutenant Heather Stamp.
“We’ve got some fantastic Wishing Tree Champions, some of the employees here.”
Wishing Tree ‘Champions’ are K hub employees in Wishing Tree T-shirts, who encourage people to donate and answer questions about the appeal.
“When people give a toy, it goes straight to the Salvation Army, so it stays local and goes out to the Glenelg Shire.
“Last year we handed out over 400 gifts to children and families outside of the Glenelg Shire.
“This year, it’s likely to expand even more.
“We give gifts to children aged 0-18, so any type of gift that is suitable for those age groups is more than welcome.
“There’s not a specific requirement as to what can and can’t be given.
“It goes out to local children and families, those who need a little hope this Christmas.”
Gifts need to be new, and they don’t have to be bought in Kmart.
There is a gifting guide on the Kmart website for anyone after suggestions for what to give.
