THE Southern Grampians Shire Council announced last week that fireworks are set to go off again in Hamilton this New Year’s Eve.
Last year’s display was cancelled due to the pandemic, however, this year’s display is set to be bigger and better than ever before and will be more visible from further away.
Mayor, Bruach Colliton said it was fantastic to see live entertainment returning to the region with street buskers in our towns and lots of Christmas festivities happening, including Santa’s Sleigh at Hamilton’s Performing Arts Centre.
“Having fireworks return to the region after last year’s hiatus is really the icing on the cake,” he said.
The display is set to begin from 10pm on New Year’s Eve at Melville Oval.
Melville Oval will be closed to the public from 12pm on Friday, December 31, 2021, until 12pm on Saturday, January 1, 2022, to ensure safe viewing distances.
Traffic management will be in place around Melville Oval, with the Market Place and Brown Street sides closed to traffic.
Access to Market Place will be strictly prohibited to allow access for emergency services.
Pet owners are reminded to secure animals and undertake necessary precautions to keep pets safe during the fireworks display.
“I encourage all those who are staying in the region over the Christmas break to take the opportunity to enjoy the
fireworks,” mayor Colliton said.
