COLES’ customers in Hamilton may notice shortages of produce on their shelves in coming weeks, as the national supermarket chain struggles to keep shelves stocked due to experiencing major supplies logistics’ disruptions.
The Hamilton store has introduced limits on some major food items, in line with its national stores, citing holiday shortages, coupled with the impact in the surge of COVID-19 positive cases, causing high absentee rates.
Dwindling stock of some produce has prompted Coles to announce a temporary limit across all of its supermarkets, on the sale of certain meats as well as rapid antigen test kits, as it faces staffing issues as coronavirus spreads through its workforce, including truck drivers and staff in distribution centres.
Limits also apply to some meat products including, a limit of two packs each of chicken breasts, chicken thighs, mince and sausages.
Hough brand COVID-19 test kits in Coles stores or online (excluding WA), will also be limited, with an allowance of one pack per customer.
Current food limits at Coles are expected to last another couple of weeks, as more and more workers catch coronavirus and are sidelined by the virus.
A statement released by Coles said: “Due to high demand, we have introduced temporary pack limits per transaction/per customer on a range of products in store and online.”
Woolworths said it will not be introducing product limits.
