Vintage enthusiasts flocking to Heywood

VINTAGE machinery enthusiasts from far and wide will flock to Heywood next weekend for the annual Glenelg Vintage Machinery Restorers Club Rally.

Now in its fourth year, the event is home to a host of great activities throughout the weekend of February 5 and 6, including tractors pulls, a street parade and medieval re-enactments.

Club member Sharon Warner said the club was excited to bring the event back after ongoing COVID restrictions and rising cases had caused uncertainty within the community.

“Last year we were the only group to have a rally due to lockdowns and everything, so we were packed,” she said.

“We had around 150 exhibitors last year and we’re hoping for similar this year.

“Although now things are getting back to a sense of normalcy, the ones who would normally go to other rallies might not be around plus the risk of COVID might cause some people to stay home, but we’re confident it’ll be a great day whatever the turnout’s like.”

Ms Warner said the whole day was packed with fun, but one of the main attractions was always the tractor pull.

“The tractor pull is a lot of fun – we have it set up in the middle so everyone can see and support the entrants,” she said.

“None of it’s a competition and the guys are just there to show their skills and have a good time, but it’s always great to watch and cheer on your favourite participants or tractors.

“Unfortunately this year we’re going to be missing out on the sword show from our medieval re-enactors, but we’ll still have some of the guys there and dressed up so that’s still a big draw card.

“Then of course we have the street parade at 1pm on Saturday and Sunday where we’ll do a lap around Heywood.

“There’s heaps to see and do and at only $5 entry for adults it’s a pretty good deal.”

The event will also have a number of food and drink vendors on the day and live entertainment.

Proceeds raised through the gate price will be donated to Heywood Rural Health.

Anyone wishing to exhibit on the day must have insurance.
