PORTLAND brothers Daniel and Luke Storer have plenty to celebrate this week after claiming first and second spot at the Murray Bridge Speedway’s wingless sprints meeting on Saturday night.
The Portland duo travelled to South Australia for a unique 60-lap wingless sprints contest, a longer distance variation of their usual format. The evening kicked off with eight rounds of heats as drivers attempted to quality for the feature final, with the Storers featuring in four heats.
Daniel Storer kicked things off with a win in the 10-lap second heat, finishing in first place with a two second lead over Joel Heinrich in second.
Luke Storer got his first taste of the Murray Bridge track in the fourth heat, finishing in second spot behind Tyson Martin.
Daniel dropped back in the sixth heat of the night, finishing fourth, and Luke rounded things out with the same result in seventh heat.
40 drivers began the night and just 20 qualified for the 60-lap feature final.
When the dust settled 27-year-old Daniel was just too good, finishing the long-distance journey with a final time of 25:03.995.
Daniel’s biggest rival for the majority of the race was 24-year-old Luke Storer who finished in second spot with a final time of 25:06.312, trailing his older brother by 2.3 seconds.
Mitchell Broome rounded out the podium in third, trailing Luke by nearly two seconds.
