Local Gunditjmara Elder Denis Rose has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Monash University, for empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in caring for country and culture.

Mr Rose was presented with the doctorate at a graduation ceremony last month in Melbourne, and said it was another major recognition for the importance of the ongoing Budj Bim Cultural Landscape project.
