Small businesses tap into tech

THE State Government has announced that a further $5 million in rebates has been made available in the latest round of the Small Business Digital Adaptation Program to help small and family businesses upgrade their digital systems.

The program has so far supported more than 10,000 Victorian businesses to build their digital presence, streamline services, reach new customers, and improve efficiency.

Small businesses can apply for $1200 rebates to access a range of digital tools to make improvements to websites, online marketing, project management and stocktake systems and cash flow services.

Popular software applications available as part of the program include Mr Yum, Square, Shopify, Squarespace, MYOB and XERO.

Once business owners have implemented the new technology, further assistance is also available through the program to support a successful digital transition in addition to free digital workshops through Business Victoria.

Acting Small Business minister, Martin Pakula said the government was backing small businesses across the state through programs like this.

“We know the critical role they play in creating jobs for Victorians,” he said.

Hamilton Lakeside Motel owner, Lyn Lewis said her business had significantly benefited from the rebate they received two years ago under the program, as they were able to install the XERO program for the motel.

“It’s been great, and we still use the same package,” Ms Lewis said.

“It was in the middle of a lockdown when we received the grant which was great timing.

“It was a pretty tough time and we went for a few weeks without anyone here so when the opportunity to apply came up, we jumped.”

The new round of the Small Business Digital Adaptation Program closes on July 18, with more information available at business.vic.gov.au.
