OCTOBER is Buy Nothing New at Vinnies stores, and they have launched a challenge for their loyal supporters to consider what they purchase for home, the wardrobe and the biggest gift-buying season of the year – Christmas.
The popular opportunity shops have encouraged Victorians to trial a sustainable way to bring new items into their homes by committing to buying pre-loved treasures.
Vinnies Victoria commercial services executive general manager, Jeff Antcliff, said it was a great way to save money and look at alternatives.
“Vinnies’ Buy Nothing New Month is designed as an annual circuit-breaker in our buying habits – a reminder that with a little extra time and care, buying pre-loved items can bring immeasurable joy to our lives and provide a meaningful connection to the circular economy too,” he said.
“We are expecting significant traction with Vinnies’ Buy Nothing New Pledge this year.
“With inflationary pressures pushing up the cost of living on every front, people are desperately seeking ways to stretch their budgets, and concurrently, to be proud of how they are contributing to addressing urgent macro environmental issues like escalating landfill.”
With the help of JAK Creative & Events master creative and stylist, Kerryn Howell, the stores will be showcasing event tips and tricks, including ways to use discovered treasures to support and enhance table styling over the holiday season.
“With Christmas just around the corner, we are already being lured into a culture of ‘buy, buy, buy’ – and our mission as part of Buy Nothing New Month with Vinnies, is to inspire people to make considered choices about what they bring into their homes, and importantly, how they make it shine,” she said.
“We’ll be sharing a series of tips and techniques for styling key occasions for the holiday season and other special events too, like bridal showers, all of which feature selected goods found at Vinnies.
“Our focus is on the table – there is an art and science to this, but everyone can master and take pride in their creations.”
