PORT Fairy is internationally renowned for its festivals held each year, many of which are highly anticipated by locals and travellers alike.
The Port Fairy Spring Music Festival started yesterday and continues over the weekend.
The Festival is a wonderful opportunity for the region to gather, experience, appreciate, and celebrate the accomplished local and visiting musicians.
This year, The Hamilton and Alexandra College will have five student musicians performing at the Regenerators Concert at the Festival today in the Lecture Hall at 3:30pm
Director of music at THAAC, Mr Benjamin Hiscock, is proud of the strong relationship that the school has fostered with the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival over many years of participation.
This year, the students’ solo performances will be accompanied by the Festival’s co-director, Stefan Cassomenos, who is a renowned Australian concert pianist.
THAAC students have been incredibly privileged to have worked with Stefan and the Festival’s other co-director, Monica Curro, in preparation for the festival and as an enriching learning opportunity.
“Stefan and Monica have visited THAAC Music Faculty numerous times this year to conduct individual extension lessons, workshops, and VCE masterclasses.
“They were an invaluable source of encouragement, inspiration, and drive in our preparations for the Sesquicentenary Music Showcase,” Mr Hiscock said.
Students that will perform in the Regenerators Concert are Andrew Sun (Year 5) playing Allegro from Concerto in G major K 216 by Mozart; Lachlan Reid (Year 6) playing Elegie Op. 24 by Faure and Libertango (1974) by Piazzolla; Anna Davidson (Year 9) playing Malagueña Op 21 No 1 by Sarasate; Nicholas Hoskyns (Year 10) playing Praeludium and Allegro (1905) by Kreisler; and Millie Davidson (Year 11) playing Romance in G major, Op 40 by Beethoven.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our regional students to perform locally with such a versatile and accomplished musician,” Mr Hiscock said.
The Festival has an exciting line up of concerts and displays of talent will be plentiful over the weekend.
