Love is in the air this Valentine’s Day

AS people across the Western District celebrated Valentine’s Day yesterday by spoiling their loves ones with gifts and special dinners, local businesses were busy making sure the day went off without a hitch.

Many used the annual occasion to express their love and appreciation for one another, with businesses seizing the opportunity to decorate for the day and offer special deals or promotions.

The Commercial Hotel manager, Maddy Holding, said they had spent last week preparing for Valentine’s Day which included a special dinner menu and complimentary treats.

“We had a specials board and then we kept the other menu just in case anyone wanted something regular, for example if they have a favourite meal,” she said.

“We also offered a complimentary cookie and a complimentary glass of bubbles.

“The tables were also decorated to fit the theme.”

Ms Holding said they not only set their sights on couples for Valentine’s Day this year, but also on appealing to families.

“We’re just trying to keep a nice, casual, simple, but enjoyable night for couples or even a family if they want to come in,” she said.

“We’ve got the kids’ room so you can pop them in there while the parents enjoy some bubbles and a candlelit dinner.

“It’s a good reason just to get out I suppose and enjoy something and give customers a bit of a treat … it’s been a little while since we’ve been able to do that.”

Ms Holding said they offered both lunch and dinner options yesterday, with Valentine’s Day often proving to be a drawcard for people to enjoy a nice dinner out, resulting in a boost to their regular bookings.

“We have done things previously and it has been popular,” she said.

“I think it’s a nice occasion just to get out.”
