THE alarming state of country roads looks set to continue to decline in condition as the lack of significant budget allocation for their maintenance takes increasing effect.
A recent letter from the managing director of a road surfacing company to Lowan MP, Emma Kealy and the Road Safety shadow minister, Danny O’Brien said the Department of Transport “has ceased funding road resurfacing, for at least the next twelve months, on our rural road network” and anticipated a host of negative effects, including a reduction in rural jobs in the industry.
