Hamilton Caravan Park basher on trial

A WITNESS has described the moment he saw a man repeatedly beating another man with a metal pole in an alleged attack at the Hamilton Caravan Park on April 24, 2021, as one of the most brutal things he had ever seen.

Wayne Dennert, 58, pleaded not guilty in the Warrnambool County Court on Wednesday to intentionally and recklessly causing serious injury.

The court heard from a witness who described hearing screams for help from Hamilton man, Brendan Nancarrow, who was left with multiple broken bones after he had allegedly been attacked by Mr Dennert.

The witness was staying with his family at the Hamilton Caravan Park in Shakespeare Street during April 2021 when he witnessed the accused standing over Mr Nancarrow holding a metal pole.

Mr Dennert said he acted in self-defence when he believed Mr Nancarrow was breaking into his caravan.

The trial continued all week hearing from witnesses and going through evidence.
