Great white on the beach

A WASHED-UP great white shark carcass at Cape Bridgewater has caused a buzz amongst locals this week.

One visitor to who got a surprise was Portland born Gavin Randles who had spent Sunday surfing at the popular area, before coming across the huge carcass at high tide on Monday evening.

Over the weekend Mr Randles and others at Cape Bridgewater had observed a pod of orcas in the area with one visitor saying they had seen the orcas circling and creating a large turmoil in the water, presumedly to catch prey.

It was assumed it was a school of fish the orcas had rounded up.

But while on his walk the next evening, Mr Randles discovered the washed-up shark, and wondered about the orcas’ prey.

People have this week continued to visit the beach to get a good look at the carcass.
