THE guest speaker at the History Centre’s next general meeting will definitely be one worth coming to hear.
Warrick Hanstead started in the Public Record Office (PRO) some 40 years ago and began assisting the public with their enquiries, then moved to the Head Office in Nauru House, advising Victorian Government departments on records disposition and archival requirements.
Part of this was also identifying historical records which needed to be transferred to the PRO for permanent retention.
Warrick spent two years running the PRO regional office at Ballarat, then moved onto the National Archives of Australia (NAA).
After resigning from NAA, he bought a place at Melville Forest and loved it there.
During that time Warrick worked at RMIT Hamilton sorting records pertaining to the Potter Farmland Project (which gave genesis to Landcare), a period farm labouring, running the McDonald Rural Services store at Balmoral for 12 months, truck driving, then working for a waste and recycling business.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 14 at 7.30pm at 43 Gray St.
