YOUNG people in the Southern Grampians Shire are invited to relax, play games, meet new people and listen to music as part of a brand-new initiative.

The Hamilton Holiday Hangout will take place at the Speckled Frog from January 22 to 25 – the event will be open to those aged 12-15 on January 22 and 23, while those aged 16-19 are welcome from January 24 and 25 and it will be open on all days from 10am to 2pm.

Brophy school and community programs project coordinator, Zoe Damman, said the hang (hangout) was an exciting opportunity to chill before the holidays finished up.

“The hangout is exciting because it’s an opportunity for people to get together, chill out, catch up, socialise and have some fun before going back to school,” she said.

“We are going to play some games, be creative, listen to tunes – we’ll be in the Speckled Frog, 12-19-year-olds can use it as a space to relax, hang with friends, meet new people. It’s about all the good stuff.”

Ms Damman is hoping to see a strong turnout across the four days.

“There’s been community feedback asking for more events for young people – we’re really pleased to have another one on the agenda through the school holiday period,” she said.

Brophy Hamilton services and engagement lead, Rowena Brinkmann, said the Holiday Hangout program is designed for 12-19-year-olds.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for young people to get together, chill out, catch up, socialise and have fun just before the holidays end and before school goes back,” she said.

“The hangout will be a space to relax, hang out with friends and meet new people, where they can play games together, be creative, listen to music and enjoy some food.

“We have capacity for around 20 people at each session.”
