Another year of auction goods

THE Heywood Lions Club are accepting donations for their annual auction, raising money for community and national organisations.

On March 24, from 11am, located at the Heywood Recreation Reserve, will be the annual Heywood Lions Club Auction, auctioning off items donated by the community and other sources.

Auction coordinator Graeme Bond said they will have a large range of items this year including firewood, a trailer load of treated pine posts donated by Portland Pine Products.

Items may even come from deceased estates.

“We also have a large number of vendors selling their goods on the day. Selling anything from farm machinery to antiques and collectables,” Mr Bond said.

“I worry every year that we’re not going to have enough for the auction, but it just arrives trailer after trailer load.

“The local community are fabulous as they support us each year with donated items.

“Without the generous support of the locals, our auction would not happen.”

The auction will be conducted by auctioneer and Koroit Lions Club member Bruce Lowenthall.

Sausages, hamburgers and drinks will be available from the Lions barbeque trailer.

“It’s as much a social event as a Lions Club fundraiser,” Mr Bond said.

“Heywood people look forward to it.

“We also have community members, the friends of the Lions, who help us out on the day and without them we couldn’t operate.”

The auction raises funds for community projects and other organizations Australia wide, including the Australian Lions Foundation.

In previous years, the Heywood Lions donated $2260 to the Lions Foundation supporting the flood relief for New South Wales and Queensland.

People can contact Mr Bond at 0417 106 707 to donate items into the auction.

The Lions can pick up donated items if required and items will not be accepted after 10.30am on auction day.

Terms of the payment are cash, cheque and eftpos.
