100km cycle for Good Friday

FUNDRAISING for the annual Royal Children’s Hospital is front and centre again with the Condah branch of the Good Friday Appeal already raking in the dollars and surpassing goals.

This year, Condah has organised a local, David Tuppen to cycle more than 100 kilometres from Condah, to Macarthur, then Hamilton, and back home on Good Friday March 29, starting and ending at the Green Hills Hotel.

Mr Tuppen is well known in Hamilton for having previously been involved in the Hamilton Cycling Club and as boundary umpire for local football for many years.

“I’ve actually just got back on a bike after 20 years off it,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“Last year’s Good Friday Appeal at Green Hills Hotel raised more than $32,400 for the appeal.”

Paul and Carolyn Malseed are the coordinators for the Condah branch and were proud of the fact it was the highest amount in the Glenelg Shire for 2023.

“For the bike ride this year, so far we’ve raised $8000 which is double our goal of $4000,” Mrs Malseed said.

“And separately, the pub has already raised $12,000 taking the tally to $20,000 putting us well on track to meet last year’s amount or even surpass.

“So that’s around $60,000 in two years - not bad for a little place like Condah,” Mrs Malseed said.

“Businesses have paid about $500 to get their name on my top,” Mr Tuppen said.

“These will be framed then hung in the pub afterwards.”

Mrs Malseed said there would again be an auction at the hotel on the Friday night.

“Businesses have donated various things to be auctioned off,” she said.

Donations can still be made by contacting Carolyn Malseed or the Green Hills Hotel, Condah.

Anyone interested in joining the bike ride by bicycle or car is welcome, taking off at 10.30am on Good Friday.
