Dig deep for Good Friday door knock

HAMILTON Lions Club member and Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) appeal coordinator, Allan Hadden, has reminded the local community to get out their coins for the Good Friday Appeal door knock.

Local CFA brigades across the state have carved out a wonderful annual tradition, having raised more than $37 million for the RCH since 1951.

Mr Hadden said that after raising $61,000 locally for the RCH last year, they are hoping to raise close to $70,000 in the Hamilton region this year.

The Hamilton, Tarrington and Grange Fire Brigades, Hamilton Kangaroos Football-Netball Club, Hamilton SES, Hamilton Lions Club, Mulleraterong members and other volunteers were all helping to raise funds for the cause.

“The Hamilton Urban Fire Brigade will be the main door knockers, they have been doing this for 50 years,” Mr Hadden said.

“We are hoping to touch most of Hamilton, and around Tarrington too.”

Mr Hadden also said that the RCH has supported the community in many ways, and residents should be willing to give back to the worthy cause.

“It’s really important, most people you talk to have direct contact with the hospital, through their children or their friends.

“It’s just one of those things we want to keep up for kids to get the world’s best care - our daughter was treated there, and our grandkids were too.”

The door knock will be taking place today, Good Friday, between 8am-6pm.

Mr Hadden said people can also donate in person at the Lions Club rooms on Shakespeare Street, Hamilton, during the times above and if they had spare time, volunteers were always welcome to door knock areas in Hamilton.

There have also been QR codes placed around the main streets and shops in Hamilton which can be scanned to direct people to the fundraising link.

“It should be a pretty ‘good’ Good Friday,” he said.

Donations can be given through the website: fundraise.goodfridayappeal.com.au/fundraisers/Hamilton or by scanning the QR code.
