Condah RCH appeal record

THE quiet little hamlet of Condah has outdone itself again having blown last year’s fundraising effort out of the water for the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Good Friday Appeal.

Local appeal coordinator Carolyn Malseed was thrilled with the success.

“It was a great achievement for our very small community,” she said.

She said Condah’s effort well and truly surpassed last year’s that raised about $32,400.

This year, Condah organised local, David Tuppen to cycle more than 100 kilometres from Condah, to Macarthur, then Hamilton, and back home on Good Friday, starting and ending at the Green Hills Hotel.

“Tuppy’s ride for the kids raised $12,000, the auction at the pub made $13,500 and altogether the total was $39,311,” Mrs Malseed said.

Green Hills Hotel employee, Kare McQuinn said the remaining funds were raised from a weekly spinning wheel in the pub each Friday night.

“It makes $200 a week and Darren Dyson and the Greenhills Hotel has been running that for a fair few years now, and there will also be raffles in that total,” she said.

“(It) is an amazing effort for such a small community … the best in the Glenelg Shire I believe.”
