High tea and artworks

CAKES, slice, champagne and hot drinks were all served at the high tea on Sunday, held at the Alexandra Park building, and hosted by the Rotary Club of Portland and Cycling Without Age.

The High Tea was a sold-out event selling 172 tickets and raising $9000 to be split between Cycling Without Age and Rotary’s plans for a community workshop.

Cycling Without Age will use the funds to pay for annual insurance and extra bike maintenance.

Meanwhile, Rotary are looking into hosting a free suicide alertness workshop, training people to identify the signs of someone who is troubled.

Rotary president Peter Taylor said the high tea venue looked fantastic.

“We had our artworks on display for decoration and the possibility to sell some, that part of it was preloved art, and a little bit of extra cash was made out of that,” he said.

“We had plenty of volunteers, at one stage there I counted in excess of 30 people working in the kitchen, the bar and the serving staff.

“It was well supported right across the board.”
