Shire celebrates volunteers

AS we mark this year’s National Volunteer Week (NVW), the Southern Grampians Shire Council (SGSC) has extended their gratitude to the dedicated and talented volunteers who enrich the community and will be supporting Standing Tall in Hamilton Inc’s annual Volunteer Conference this Friday.

Volunteer Week is celebrated nationally, this year from May 20 - 26

This annual celebration is an opportunity to recognise the countless individuals who generously donate their time, skills, and passion to make the region thrive.

Many volunteers support Council initiatives directly, such as the TAC L2P program, Friends of the Botanical Gardens, Friends of the Gallery, and our Tourist and Information Centres.

Their involvement is vital to the success of these programs, and without their dedication, the wide array of activities available in our region would simply not be possible.

SGSC mayor, David Robertson said the Southern Grampians is fortunate to have a diverse and committed group of volunteers.

“We are incredibly lucky to have such a proactive and engaged community with volunteers ensuring clubs, societies, teams, and committees run smoothly,” he said.

“Any other Shire would envy the level of volunteerism we enjoy which we know is well above the regional average.

“Their tireless efforts enhance the quality of life for all residents, and we are deeply grateful for their contributions.

“From those who run our progress associations and community groups, to the coaches, umpires, referees, and sports organisers who make our sporting life so dynamic, thank you. Your contributions are invaluable.

“From the emergency service volunteers at the CFA and SES – who brave challenging conditions to keep us safe, to the volunteers at our service clubs Lions and Rotary - your work is indispensable, and we cannot thank you enough for the time you donate.

“I know there are many more individuals and groups who deserve recognition as well. I am humbled by the sheer number of people willing to give their time for the enhancement of our Shire.”

This Friday, Standing Tall in Hamilton Inc. will be hosting the second annual Volunteers Conference for new and seasoned volunteers, to celebrate volunteers during National Volunteer Week by empowering and engaging all the remarkable volunteers in the shire.

It will be an inspiring day filled with learning, networking, and celebrating volunteers for their dedication to the community.

With only 150 seats available, anyone wishing to secure a FREE ticket now or find more information can visit the website shorturl.at/GKQ57

The event will be held this Friday, May 24, from 9am-3pm at the Hamilton Racing Club.
