100-YEAR-OLD George Habel OAM recently had the honour of giving his third daughter, Lynette Cowie away when she married Michael Hickey, both of Hamilton.

The wedding was held on May 24 at the Lutheran Church in Portland, where the couple now resides.

The bride’s party was piped into the church by Hamilton bagpiper, Ken Crozier.

Lynette’s attendants were her oldest and youngest daughters, Bekki and Emma from Perth. Mr Hickey’s sister Rhonda Lyons was his attendant.

Unfortunately, Lynette’s other two children were unable to attend due to prior commitments.

Michael’s four children from Geelong were in attendance along with 60 close friends and family, some travelling from interstate.

After the wedding ceremony a reception was held at a local hall catered by the Portland U3A ladies.

Ms Cowie said it was a truly joyous occasion with lots of smiles and laughs.

Mr Habel now resides at the Wannon Hostel in Coleraine.
