HAMILTON Gallery director, Joshua White, will again be the judge at Hamilton Rotary’s Annual Art Show. Joshua White has been the Director of Hamilton Gallery since April 2020.
Rotary Art Show director, Brian Jenkins, welcomed Mr White’s involvement and said that a high-profile judge was paramount to ensuring a successful show.
Mr Jenkins said that “the annual Rotary Art Show has been held for over 40 years with all proceeds used to fund the club’s programs which include local organisations and students, national projects such as donations to emergency relief projects and Rotary International projects such as the eradication of malaria and polio from the world”.
More than 300 paintings are expected to be exhibited at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre throughout the show’s duration from the gala opening on Thursday, October 10, through to Sunday, October 13, 2024.
Entries come from local, Victorian and interstate artists and Mr Jenkins said Mr White will judge the nine competition categories including the best work in the show, Young Artist’s awards and a range of other sections.
The popular People’s Choice award will occur again this year,” he said.
$8,450 in prize money will be distributed to the various winners.
Prior to joining Hamilton Gallery, Mr White held senior positions in the public gallery sector in New South Wales, including Public Art Project Leader for Lake Macquarie City Council, Curator at Gosford Regional Gallery and Technical Officer of Newcastle Art Gallery.
At Hamilton Gallery, he and his team deliver an engaging visual arts program and is responsible for one of regional Victoria’s most unique and important collections.
Spanning almost 10,000 objects, the collection has four key collection areas with strengths in Japanese, Chinese, Australian and European Art.
Mr White and his team are focused on building and developing a New Hamilton Gallery to increase the gallery’s cultural offerings of the region and ability to positively impact the community.
