Busking competition nominations open

THE annual Hamilton Christmas Busking Competition will be returning to the streets of Hamilton this holiday season, with the expectation it will bring a positive atmosphere to the CBD.

This holly jolly musical event will be brightening the streets between Friday, November 29 and Saturday, December 21.

If you’re an established act trying to build an audience or a new performer looking for some valuable experience, this competition is for anyone with a passion for music to share their talents with the community.

Southern Grampians Shire Council (SGSC) chief executive, Tony Doyle was pleased to see the competition return.

“Nothing evokes the spirit of the holidays quite like Christmas music,” he said.

“From the carols we grew up singing to pop hits from the 80’s and the return of ‘All I Want For Christmas’; music captures the cosy feeling of the season like nothing else.

“We had so many amazing musicians treat us to their performances last year, we’re really hoping to get buskers, bands and performers of all kinds on our streets, entertaining our residents and spreading the good cheer.”

This year, due to high demand, the SGSC have added a youth category for performers 18 and under with a $250 shop local voucher available for the winner of both categories, perfect for picking up gifts for the big day.

Winners will be determined by popular vote through a QR code system.

One and all are invited to sign up with nominations open until Friday, November 29 with forms available via the Council website at bit.ly/3YYuaZi or by dropping into the Brown Street customer service counter.

There are plenty of slots available, including the evening of the St Marys parade when the streets will be bustling with late night shoppers.

The call is out to fill the streets with festive music, joy, and a true sense of community.

Dust off your favourite holiday songs, grab your instruments, and get ready to share your talents!
