IT’S been seven years since Crystal Bell and Geordie Elliott have made the trip up to the Sydney Royal Easter Show, but the wait appeared to have been worth it.
At the largest annual cattle show in Australia, the Prairie Falls stud breeders entered their “boss lady” Bettina N6 with bull calf PF State Trooper S15 and had a happy outcome.
“We don’t go up too often,” Mr Elliott said.
“We won grand champion female in the Murray Grey ring.
“Another heifer we had got sixth in her class and then the cow went on to be pulled up into the Hordern (Trophy) which is a group class in the interbreed.
“The champion male and champion female from each breed make up the group that come in, and we were brought into the top five which is a pretty prestigious thing.”
Mr Elliott admitted the cost of the trip from Breakaway Creek south-west of Hamilton wasn’t cheap, but the effort had been rewarded.
“It cost us a lot of money to get there,” he said.
“It was just a touch under a 1000 bucks return for fuel.
“The cow that we took there, she’s one of the most impressive cows that we’ve ever bred, and we’ll sell a flush.
“It’s all part of promotion.”
