AGENTS yarded 169 cattle at Mortlake on Wednesday, a decrease of 67 head on the previous week’s market comprising 99 export, 59 trade and 11 bulls.
Quality was mixed being a typical winters yarding. Not all the regular buyers were present, however, feeder competition was strong for the trade cattle on offer as well as cows returning to the paddock. The market was generally firm for most other categories.
Dairy Cows were 20 to 30c/kg stronger. Yearling steers and heifers made between 410c and 528c/kg. Grown steers and heifers making between 378c and 470c/kg.
Manufacturing Steers sold to 334c/kg. Beef cows were making between 314c/kg and 370c/kg with the dairy cows selling from 313c to 323c/kg. Well-bred beef cows back to the paddock sold from 313c to 323c/kg. Beef bulls to the trade sold to 328c/kg
