THERE is no holding Grace and Emily Elsom back.
A trip to the Royal Melbourne Show, presenting cattle raised at Good Shepherd College, was the catalyst for what is now Emigrace Poll Herefords.
With Herefords in the blood, it was competition showing, with a Banemore Hereford steer, donated by David Jenkin to the Good Shepherd College Agriculture program that set the path.
The steers are judged as they are presented, and then the carcass is judged to finalise the score.
From that point on Grace was hooked on showing cattle. With both girls full of enthusiasm and growing up on a Poll Hereford breeding property – it was inevitable that the girls would take the leap and start their own stud in 2017.
The Bowmont Hereford dispersal sale was the perfect opportunity for the girls to purchase solid and reliable founding females on which to base their new stud.
As it happens, show cattle need to be registered, so the stud was a way of providing the registered animals for competing - but why breed incredibly good stock and have them registered if you don’t capitalise on all your work?
So, turning to genetics, the girls have used females from Wirruna Poll Herefords, Kanimbla Poll Herefords and Banemore Herefords.
Like expectant parents, the girls are eagerly awaiting the progeny of Injemira Patriarch SO42 to drop in the autumn.
Injemira Patriarch was the $75,000 high seller at Injemira in 2023.
The progeny should be seriously appealing to both stud and commercial buyers and is representative of the traits buyers can expect going forward.
Grace and Emily are both excited to present five rising two-year-old, Poll Hereford Bulls for sale during beef week on Saturday February 3.
Emigrace will have two Wirruna blood line bulls and three Injemira Fortune sired bulls for sale. Emigrace can be found at 560 Ripponhurst Rd, Warrabkook - just out of Macarthur.
