The first prime market in March on Friday last week saw numbers increased slightly this week, with 256 put forward, including 208 cows, 27 trade and 21 bulls.
The usual buyers were in attendance alongside an additional exporter in what was a dearer market over most categories.
Trade cattle was in limited supply and quality, however prices remained firm across both light weights and grown cattle.
Steers less than 350kg returned 570cents, whilst the heifer category saw medium weights top at 388c/kg and grown heifers over 500kg peak at 382c/kg.
Cow numbers once again dominated the yarding, with most cows in good to very good condition with few light cows presented.
Extra export competition saw cow prices on the best heavy bodies rise 20c/kg, with the pick topping at 354c/kg, whilst slightly plainer bodies finished 10 cents dearer.
A good run of heavy bulls were presented and price rises were recorded over both weight grades.
Heavy weight bulls this week peaked at 355c/kg, to average 30c/kg higher than last week’s rate.
Light weight bulls less than 700kg saw similar rises, to peak at 335c/kg and average 316 cents.
