THE 2021 Sportswoman of the Year will be announced on Monday night, with 17 junior and senior nominees receiving invitations to the prestigious event. The evening recognises the individual sporting accolades of athletes from the Hamilton region and stretches to all corners of the sporting world.
Indiana Van Diesen (Soccer) – Indiana represented Australia in the Christian Football Australian National Academy tour of Spain and was selected in the development squad to compete in France.
Jessica Field (Cricket)
– Jessica represented Victoria Country in the Under-18 Girls Championship in Tasmania, along with being part of Essendon-Maribyrnong Park’s First XI T20 premiership team.
Robyn Thomassen (Bowls)
– Robyn won a silver medal in the state team at the National 60+ Championships and also won the singles, pairs and fours at regional bowls level.
Tricia Carter (Shooting)
– Tricia was part of the mixed pairs runners-up duo at the Australian Clay Target Association National Championships, also winning the Universal Trench event at the NSW championships.
Sue Walter (Tennis)
– Sue played in the Oceania Senior Regional Championships and the Australian Senior Tennis Championships, winning the singles, doubles and mixed doubles at both events.
Stephanie Farquharson (Taekwondo)
– Stephanie won the Lents Taekwondo Worldwide Sports Online Open in Recognised and Beach Poomsae and also won a golf medal in the power breaking grade red section at the Victorian Autumn Poomsae Championships.
Willow Sainsbury (Tennis)
– Willow won the singles title at the Inter-Regional Country Championships and was a semi-finalist in the A grade singles at the Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Open Tournament.
Sally Warnock (Quoits)
– Sally was the ladies runner-up at the Australian Ropes Quoits Championships.
Ally Gray (Polocrosse)
– Ally was selected in the Victorian Under-21 mixed polocrosse team and finished runner-up in the Trafalgar Women’s Polocrosse Competition division one.
Zoe Addinsall (Tetrathlon)
– Zoe won the Under-13 tetrathlon at the Pony Club Australia nationals and also won the modern pentathlon and tetrathlon at the State Championships.
Rebecca Linke (Shooting)
– Rebecca finished first overall in the junior girls’ section at the Minyip shoot and also won the senior girls title at the Warrnambool shoot.
Matilda Mason (Pentathlon/aths)
– Matilda placed second at the Under-15 National Modern Pentathlon Championships, along with the pentathlon and tetrathlon at the state titles. Matilda also won the 12/13 regional Cross Country Running Championship.
Muirne Reilly (Equestrian)
– Muirne competed at the National Equestrian Interschool Championships and the State Equestrian Championships, successfully qualifying for the national championships.
Madeleine Green (Cricket)
– Madeleine was part of the Cricket Australia Under-15 Victorian national championships team, along with the Youth Premier League Under-17 Western Waves premiership team.
Isla Lowery (Gymnastics)
– Isla won the Junior Victorian Championships division two gymnastics title.
Laura Michelmore (Polocrosse)
– Laura was part of Victoria’s winning Under-16 polocrosse team in New Zealand and finished runner-up at the Under-16 Covid Cup.
Zoe Weinberg (Equestrian)
– Zoe competed at the Horse Council Equestrian Showcase, winning the Champion Show Hunter Pony, also qualifying for the Grand Nationals in Sydney.
