AFTER being postponed earlier in the year, the Hamilton Motorcycle Club is gearing up for its biggest day of the year.
The 2022 Pony Express is set for tomorrow at the club’s track in what is shaping up to be a new beginning for the event.
Club president, Shane Fry said he was excited about the new venue and said the track offered plenty of variety for riders.
“We are very excited to have it here at the club,” he said.
“I can’t wait to get it out here and incorporate some of the motorbike track, I think it is going to be a different type of event, we have some cool obstacles.
“This track has got everything; open space, tight and technical spots, in among the blue gums, also lots of obstacles like a tyre pit, tyre jump, rock wall and sand pits.
“We have incorporated the four-wheel drive track, we are really appreciative of those guys letting us use that as well.”
It is the first time in many years it will be closer to town after the event shifted from its former home in Merino this year.
“We are extremely grateful for Jolly (Rob Jolliffe) having us for so long, but it is a new beginning and we are looking forward to what this track has to offer,” Fry said.
With up to 300 riders expected to take to the track across the day, weeks of planning for the new layout of the track has reached its climax with the circuit all sorted.
Numbers are also looking strong across each of the divisions with the Junior Ironman one of the more popular events so far.
Fry said the uncertainty about moving to a new venue was evident but was confident the event would be a success.
“So long as the riders enjoy it, that is the main thing,” he said.
“There is a possibility that this event if it does work out that we can go to a May event then a late September event as well.”
It is also Fry’s first Pony Express as club president, and he will be taking to the circuit for the Ironman event tomorrow.
“It is super exciting, I have only been a member of the club for two years and I did my first Pony Express last year,” he said.
“I love the format and love the event and I can‘t wait to get out there.”
