WESTERN Speedway is gearing up for an exciting season of motor sport at its Hamilton racetrack with the highlight being the Victorian State Titles Heats for sprintcars.
“We will have seven meetings this season with 15 different classes, and it all gets underway on November 26,” club vice president, Tim Field said.
“It’s exciting to have the Victorian Street Stock Titles heats and finals over the weekend of 22 and 23 April, where we expect to have over 50 cars entered for the event,” Field said.
“There will be Vintage Sedans, Hot Rods and Standard Saloons heats on the Saturday while Sunday will feature Junior Sedans, Limited Sportsman and Production Sedans in finals.
“The first meeting of the season on November 26 will feature six different classes with up to 15 locals involved,” Field said.
Next month’s season opener is the Super Rod Stampede, with Compact Speedcars, Limited Sportsman, Production Sedans, Vintage Sedans and Standard Sedans featured.
With the racetrack hosting an event each month, December 10 will see the 360 Sprintcars take to the track, along with Standard saloons and Production Sedans.
The new year will be celebrated with Street Stock Series on January 14 as V8 Trucks and VSC Sprintcars feature on the race card.
The February meeting is one of the feature events for the season when round nine of the Eureka Series takes top billing, along with Limited Sportsman and VSC Sports Sedans.
Bash and Crash will highlight the March meeting which will feature a ‘Dog Leg Race’ where the cars turn off the circuit to make their way down into a purpose-built turn before exiting the dog leg to return onto the back straight of the speedway.
Crash and Bash cars are allowed to touch each other up a little and they spin, push and shove their way around the track with anybody fair game until the chequered flag unfurls to declare the first past the finish line winner.
The season will be rounded off in April with the staging of the Victorian State Title heats and finals staged across two days starting on April 22, with Vintage Sedans, Hot Rods and Standard Saloons featured on the Saturday and Junior Sedans, Limited Sportsman and Production Sedans
Western Speedway is also holding a Scrutineers School and Daylighting Day this Sunday where the scrutineers from around the south-west will converge on Hamilton to update their skills in the morning, while the afternoon will see the locals all have their various cars inspected before the season starts.
“Daylighting is where each car is scrutinised to ensure it meets the standards required,” Field said.
“Cars must be inspected before the season and before each event throughout the season, as we strive to have all regulations adhered to.”
The good news keeps coming for the local track with next season also set to see the country’s best return to Hamilton
“We will have a National Title here at Western Speedway in 2023-24 season which we are extremely excited about but there will be more about that as we get closer to the date,” Field said.
