Darras sign WVFFL coaches for 2023

TYRENDARRA has signed their coaches for their 2023 Western Victoria Female Football League team with Glenn Kane continuing at the helm alongside assistant coaches Sarah Pedrazzi and Nicola Clark.

After a successful inaugural season where they made finals, the Tyrendarra trio are hoping to build on their success after one year under their belt.

Tyrendarra finished the season in fourth place, playing in the first final before going down to South Warrnambool by a slim margin.

With all three coaches carry on in the positions they held last year, they said it was the willingness from the playing group that motivated them to sign on.

“The enthusiasm, the will to learn and the camaraderie amongst the team was my motivation,” Kane said.

“The camaraderie was as good as I’ve come across during my time in footy. In a short period of time they gelled together really well and it made it fun to be around.

“You get towards winter and it’s raining and there’s a bit of a lull but toward the end of the season the players started to commit and that we’re going to keep doing this so I couldn’t help but get excited by it.”

Clark, who was league runner-up in the best and fairest said she is keen to keep building on the potential of the team.

“I honestly think we’re starting to develop something pretty special and I think we can win a premiership, if not this year then the years to come – there’s some serious talent around and people want to commit and if they’re willing to then so are we,” she said.

With the start date for the season expected around April, Kane said the group is already in the planning stages.

“There’s a lot of potential to keep getting better, we’re not going to stagnate,” he said.

“We got some great feedback from players that we’ve tuned into, we’ll look at a bit more fitness and skill development.

“The three of us are starting to plan and looking at goals for the season; we’ll have a come and try night either late November or early December.

“We plan to start training once a week mid-November for a month or so to keep the group together – and they’re asking as well, they want to start training now so we’ll listen to that.

“We’ll kick into proper preseason late January or early Feb.”

With the club heading into its second year of competing in the league, Pedrazzi said it’s about bringing people in and trying something new.

“It’s still so new so if people are keen to start now is the time, everyone is still so new and everyone is learning so it’s the perfect time,” she said.

“If people are nervous about trying something new you’re in the right place because we’re all trying something new.”

Kane echoed the sentiment of Pedrazzi, saying they are prioritising inclusiveness.

“All players are welcome, our values are really important to us,” he said.

“Inclusion for us is huge, when you walk in the door and you’re willing to put the work in, be part of our team and embrace the culture then everyone is absolutely welcome

“Coming into a new sport you can be like a deer in headlights but we’ve got the six or so things that guide the way we behave and if you can do those you’re fine.

“In saying that, out values will re-establish when new players come in and we’ll keep making sure how we go about things reflects what is important to the players.”
