FOR the second time this spring, Portland’s Saturday cricket competition has been completely washed out, while tennis has also suffered their first full competition wash out for the season.
Despite the best efforts of teams and organisers alike, heavy rain in the lead-up to fixtures, along with additional rain throughout the day, meant that not a single ball in the Portland and District Cricket Association was bowled.
Neighbouring associations Hamilton and District Cricket Association and Warrnambool and District Cricket Association were also unable to start play.
It was a mostly similar story for the Surry District Tennis Association, as while the Tyrendarra versus Heywood A grade match did get underway, no matches were able to be completed.
With less rain expected throughout the rest of the week, players and organisers across all sports will be hoping play can resume this coming Saturday.
