Archers hit Heywood

THE Mount Clay Archers club welcomed a large contingent of archers to Heywood on the weekend to compete in their Australian Bowhunting Association’s Greater Victorian Branch Shoot.

Among the competitors was 13 local members who finished strongly in the results, with six first place finishes, with others achieving podium results across the three days of shooting.

Event organiser and participant Wendy Gallagher said it was a great event with some really positive results.

“The whole event went really well, we had at least 72 shooters which is a great turnout for us and means things are coming back slowly for us after COVID,” she said.

“It was a lot of fun and we had some really good feedback; shooters who have been coming for a few years said it was particularly challenging this year – we had just one person who had a perfect round which was pretty impressive.”

Local first place getters included Ruby Voigt (Cub C Bowhunter Compound), Phil Showler (Adult C Bowhunter Recurve), Mathew Butcher (Adult B Bowhunter Unlimited), Kane Maniapoto (Adult Ungraded Bowhunter Unlimited), Wayne Rantall (Adult B Freestyle Limited Compound) and Gallagher who earned top spot in Adult C Longbow Traditional.

The club will continue to host their monthly shoots at Heywood Sports Park.
