Parklander Candour

The third round of the  Parklands Golf Club Men’s Championships was held on Saturday and luckily the bragging rights from the championships are keenly sought by the club members, as only the bravest and most devoted would compete in the conditions on offer.

With the fairways on the dead side of heavy it was a certainly a challenge as the sodden grounds have hampered mowing efforts and the course is currently closed for competition with this decision to be re-assessed on Thursday.

Saturday 18 Hole Stroke Monthly Medal

The third round of the Men’s Club Championships was held in conjunction with the July Monthly Medal on Saturday and  with run hard to find on the fairways, it was no surprise that the winners were dominated by some of the bigger hitting club members.

Steve Nattrass won the monthly medal with a fine score of nett 70 while the Stroke competition winner was Dale Grambau with a nett 72 from Barry Oldaker with a nett 74 and James Brown in third with a nett 76.

Brown dominated the Nearest the Pin prizes, winning these for the second, third and fifth holes and he also won the putting prize.

The other Nearest the Pin prizes  were won by Nattrass (8th), Mark Miller (11th) and Stewart Turner (13th).

The Longest Putt prizes went to Alex Walter (1st), Alan Hitchcock (17th) and Grambau on the 18th

Nattrass’s good fortune extended to the Birdies and Ferrets prize as well while  Graeme Torney won the coveted Longest, Straightest Drive on the ninth.

After three rounds of the Men’s Club Championships, James Brown is well clear in the Scratch competition and there is a tightly bunched field in the Handicap competition.  The championships will conclude with the final round in August.

Wednesday’s and Friday’s events were cancelled due to poor ground conditions and poor weather.

Tuesday 18 Hole Par Competition

A brave field competed on Tuesday in one of the more challenging formats of the game of golf.

In a close finish Marie Cook won on a countback from Gaye Goggin, both on -9, with  Sue Irvin managed to secure third place on 10 in a countback from Mary MacCallum.

The Nearest the Pin prizes went to Cook on the 15th and Irene Box on the 5th, and Box also had the Longest Putt on the 1st with the other Longest Putt prizes going to Gina Kelly on the 17th and Goggin on the 18th

The Birdies and Ferrets prize was won by Heather Hay.
