MARG King was the recipient of the Betty Homes Memorial Trophy for 2023, playing a big role in the local ladies golf landscape.

King joined the Hamilton Golf Club in 1986, winning the club championship three times and held the ladies club captain role for two years.

She has also been instrumental in setting up the Sunday golf competition, and joined the beginner Golf Program in 2008, which runs Tuesdays, and has ran it alongside Pam King since 2020.

The pair received the monthly Visionary of the Year Award from Golf Australia, and continues to volunteer her time around the club.

Alison East won the Southern Grampians Shire Achievement Award, progressing her bowls career to be pushing for selection in the Para Jackaroos team.

East said she continues to be shocked each year when she attends the awards night.

“Just shocked, this is my third year of winning this, but I didn’t expect it this year,” she said.

“I am improving my bowls, I just love it.”

East, who has been playing bowls for the past 19 years, continues to ply her trade both as a para bowler and an able-bodied player.

Despite playing both, it is the para programs she feels most comfortable involved in.

“I feel relaxed, I am in my own environment with other people who have disabilities, so I feel better around them more than when I am with able-bodied people,” she said.

“I go off to the AIS in Canberra from November 26-29, and we have a lot of camps, so next year I will be off to the Gold Coast again.”

Casterton cricket, Alyssa Humphries, was also acknowledged on the night, collecting the Foundation Members Award.

Humphries has had an impressive year, competing in indoor and outdoor cricket, representing Australia at the Indoor Cricket World Cup and was selected in the Team of the Tournament.

With the 2024 award eligibility period opening in September, anything that has happened since then will be acknowledged at next year’s awards night.
