THE Portland Squash and Racquetball Club played out its championship games last week with Chris ‘Toff’ Thomas claiming both the squash and racquetball titles in the men’s competition while Leanne Pitman was the women’s squash winner and Kerri-Anne O’Keefe took out the racquetball crown.
Wednesday night was the squash deciders with Pitman going head-to-head with O’Keefe in the women’s clash.
It was a back-and-forth affair with both players stepping up across the match, with Pitman claiming three games to O’Keefe’s two to earn the title.
In the plate event it was Kristy Neilsen who earned the title.
In the A grade men’s it was a four-player race with Toff Thomas dominating across the board, dropping just one game in each of his finals matches to take out the win on Wednesday night.
For the men’s plate event Luke Paterson was efficient in his victory against three tough opponents.
In B grade the women’s champion was Bec Campbell while the men’s champion was Bernie Dillon.
It was an epic clash in the junior boys championships match between Reuben Thomas and Kobi Campbell with the five-game match a thriller with Thomas closing out to claim the win.
Eden King took out the junior girls squash championship.
Racquetball
O’Keefe rectified her Wednesday night loss in the squash championship by firing on Thursday night to claim the women’s A grade racquetball title.
It was a dominant performance from O’Keefe who came up against experienced player Carrie Templeton who managed to claim the second game before O’Keefe put her foot down.
In the A grade men’s it was once again Toff Thomas who had a starring performance against Luke Paterson to earn the championship.
For the men’s B grade Adam Klima earned the championship after defeating Luke Andrews.
Reuben Thomas backed up his Wednesday night squash championships with the junior boys racquetball title on Thursday night after an epic final battle against Noah Liersch.
The junior girls was also a closely fought match with Sofia Lyness just getting ahead of Violet Burgess to take out the win.
