THERE was no slow up at the bowling green, as Christmas disappears and the new year is in full swing.

Forty-two players joined in social bowls on Thursday with Jenny Pole, Gavin Wallis and Heather Gough winning their three games and finished 11 shots up.

Norm Pech, Bruce Marks and the versatile Adrian Smith were second with two wins and a draw.

The winner came all the way from Cardiff in Wales to lead the winning team on Saturday.

Wayne Gullidge, from Mornington via Cardiff, led Adrian Smith (again) and Cliff Brinkmann to victory, while John Crane and Graeme Langswoth had their radar fine-tuned to finish second with an unlucky draw, thanks to a Ray Fary super bowl to remove a resting toucher.

The biggest weekend for the year is approaching this weekend with the men’s singles played out to the semi-finals on Saturday and the men’s and women’s finals on Sunday.

A huge crowd is expected.

Now we know the finalists for the women’s event, but what about the men? Will it be rising stars Peter Graham, Russell Sherren, Michael Pech or Peter Roberts or established champions, Norm Pech or Hamish McDonald. It will be an intriguing contest.

Coming up is a special day on Thursday  with the official opening of the new green.

Bring afternoon tea and wear club uniform.

Locals are also encouraged to get ready for Try Bowls, starting on January 24.
