HAMILTON and District Cricket Association Hurricanes will unveil its future stars over the next two weeks with the annual junior Country Week carnivals being held across the region in both boys and girl’s competitions.
Warrnambool will again host the Under-17 carnival with seven teams vying for the title and will play a mixture of one-day and T20 matches across the five days of the carnival, which gets underway on Monday.
Hamilton will play Horsham and South West in one-day games on the first two games, with a T20 game against Warrnambool Blue on Wednesday morning and a bye in the afternoon to allow the side to be well rested for the final one-day game against Warrnambool Gold on Thursday and if the side finishes in the top two on the ladder it will play the final on Friday.
Players from all teams must have skills for both formats with the bat and the ball as each format is different from the other.
The team that will represent the Hurricanes is:
Eddie McShane (Grampians) – Captain. Class batsman who leads the Pumas BC grade side. Will bat in the top four.
George Huf (College) – Vice-captain. Best young wicketkeeper in the HDCA who has a magic set of hands. His batting in the top order is going to be vital.
Isaac Shaw (Hamilton) –Western Waves Under-16 Country Cup representative who will give the side good top order runs, while his quality leg spin bowling will be a weapon.
Oliver Foster (Tahara) – Has been opening the batting in A grade for Casterton District and Tahara in the Under-16 age group.
Campbell Glazebrook (Grampians) – Plays in the Pumas BC grade side and has 210 runs at an average of 30 with two 50s this summer.
Cooper Edmonds (College) – All-rounder who will provide middle order runs, while bowling tight line and length in the middle overs.
Will Legoe (College) – Opening batsman who will seek to give the side solid starts.
Jack Rhook (Tahara) – All-rounder who will be used in the death overs to keep the batsmen under pressure, while making hard hitting runs later in the order.
Jedd Rhook (Tahara) – All-rounder who like his cousin, Jack, is vital with bot bat and ball.
Eli Hunter (College) – Has a major role with the ball to fulfill and can also score lower order runs.
Riley Casey (Hamilton) – Could take the new ball and will be searching for early wickets, and can go big late with the bat.
Liam Tonissen (Tahara) – Lower order batsman who is reserve wicketkeeper and will have to make sure each innings ends with a bang.
Hammish Shipcott (Hamilton) – Made A grade debut earlier in the summer and will be a useful middle overs bowler.
This will be the 10th summer that Robbie Cook has taken charge of the side, and he is excited with the selected side.
“We have got a pretty even group again this year, and I’m looking forward to seeing how Eddie (McShane) goes (as skipper)”, Cook said.
“He is a real thinker of the game who has had a very solid start to the year in the local cricket.
“George Huf along with Eddie will be a bit of a barometer for the team, and if he has a good week with the bat, I think the group will have a good week.”
“Jack and Jedd Rhook will be a handful with the ball, as both hit the wicket hard.”
Under-15’s
THIS summer the HDCA is sending two Hurricanes teams to Horsham for the annual Under-15 carnival next week.
Craig Templeton will take charge of the Hurricanes Gold team, while Damien Logan will coach the Hurricanes Green team.
Hurricanes Green will host the annual match against Portland in Hamilton on Monday with the game being staged at Monivae Turf, before both teams travel north for the rest of the carnival.
