Bunker shots

A FIELD of 53 men and 21 women participated in the Hamilton Golf Club’s Easter Saturday stableford event.

There were some very good scores returned in what could be described as ideal conditions.

A grade was won by Tony O’Connor, who definitely had a day out with a very handy 41 points, comfortably winning from Eli Potts and Liam Powell, who both finished with 35.

Another player to have a day out was Greg Stevens, who also had 41 points to take out B grade.

B grade runner-up was Trevor Haley on 39, with John Sharrock rounding out the placegetters with 37.

Balls down the line went to Harry Armstrong, Peter Fox and Kevin King 35 points, Dale Grambau, John Andrews, Danny Franc and Cameron McDonald 34, Shane Ryan, Dan Tehan, Stephen Astbury and Chris Crane 33.

Nearest the pin on the third hole went to Grambau, the sixth went to Ben Taylor, Ross Murray on the 13th, and Wayne Riddle on the 16th.

The closest second shot on the ninth was won by Eli Potts, while Crane claimed the honour on the 15th.

In the women’s section, Robyn Holcombe was the winner with 38 points from Glen Dixon on 35.

Balls down the line went to Helen Williams, Helen Holcombe, Rhonda Scullion and Wendy Wathen 34, Kerryn Price, Judy Thornton and Debbie Milne 33.

It was great to see another woman winning the super pin competition on the third hole, with Price taking home $85 for her effort, while also hitting the closest second shot on both the ninth and 15th holes.

Williams was nearest the pin on the sixth hole.

Wednesday

IT was another popular day with 48 women participating in the Monthly Medal/stroke competition, and it was great to see Marg King have a very good round to take out the April medal.

King finished with 94 (22) 72 nett, winning the medal on a countback from Karen Payne, who has recently made a welcome return to golf.

A grade winner Karen Payne 72 nett, ahead of runner-up, Molly O’Brien 73 nett, while the B grade runner-up was Jenny Edwards with 76 nett.

C grade honours went to Deirdre Simkin 78 nett, with Lisa Murphy four off the pace as runner-up.

Balls down the line went to Holcombe 74 nett, Tania Cullinane 75 nett, Lyn Satchell and Kath Hartwich 76 nett.

Nearest the pin on third went to Satchell, while Fiona Robertson saluted on the 16th.

The longest putt on the 13th was holed by Fran McMeel, while Satchell struck the closest second shot on the 15th. 

Ath Archer proved too good on the putting green finishing with 26 putts – she did manage to have two chip ins which helped.

Next Wednesday is a stableford event.

Tuesday

NINE players played 9 holes in cooler conditions.

In the beginner group, Sally Bensch came in with 28 points, closely followed by Robert Claffey on 27, Cate Mercer-Grant 26 and Kris Fox 24.

In the emerging group, the winner was Hellen Dillon with 20 from Kerry Martin 19.

Upcoming events

THE club will host their annual Rose Bowl event on April 24.

It is a team of 3 women from the same club playing stroke event.

Today’s event is Monthly Medal/stroke for the men and a round of the Kavell Lyons Trophy/stroke for the women.

Hit them long and straight and enjoy the 19th hole.
