Class rises to the top

TYRENDARRA worked extremely hard throughout the Western Victoria Female Football League encounter on Sunday in the clash against South Warrnambool; however, the class of a well drilled South Warrnambool outfit ran out comfortable winners 9.13 (67) to Tyrendarra 1.1 (7).

South Warrnambool coach, Chris Meade reinforced the influence of a solid preparation after the game.

“We have been training from before Christmas with regular numbers at those sessions, it certainly helps in cementing the fundamentals and a clear game plan,” he said.

The senior coach at Tyrendarra, Tim Hiscock was pleased with the effort on the day but expressed a need for an improved preparation to take further steps forward in the teams’ performances.

“Our tackling, pressure and endeavour today could not be questioned, the effort is there,” he said.

“Even though the players were exhausted we halved their scoring in the second half.

“However, to be able to compete consistently with the top sides we need to train on a more regular basis so that we can polish our skills and gain a greater understanding of the game.”

Playing a key role in the backline and minimising some of South Warrnambool’s scoring efforts was Claire McKenna who competed all day for the Darras to earn best on ground.

Other players applauded for their performance were, Claire McKenna, Ebony Stiles, Sarah Pedrazzi, Rachel Hansen, and Caitlin Storrie.

The sole goalkicker for Tyrendarra was Stiles.

Tough result for under-18s

South Warrnambool’s under-18 women’s team were a class above Portland throughout the contest in Warrnambool on Sunday to win 6.16 (52) to 1.2 (8).

A well drilled South Warrnambool outfit controlled the scoreboard throughout the game. To the credit of the young Portland team the ball still spent considerable time in Portland’s forward line at various stages of the match.

Best players for Portland on the day were Annika Baker, Saige Bell, Airlie Aldridge, Taylah Convy, Lidia Thomas and Madeleine Maybery.

Young stars fly the flag

The Portland under-15 girls’ team had an emphatic win over their more fancied big city rival, South Warrnambool, in a Friday night clash held in Warrnambool, with the final score being 4.11 (35) to 0.0 (0).

The young Tigers were dominate throughout the game with the ball spending most of the night in the Tigers forward line. With a bit more polish around goal the win would have been even more decisive.

Best players were Ava Kent, Indiana Rowe, Amber Fitgerald, Stella Trickey, Olivia Trickey and Payten Payne.

Goalkickers for Portland, one goal each to Ava Jacobson, Stella Trickey, Annika Baker, and Indianna Rowe.
